Upgrades & Obsolete Parts Print E-mail

industrial.jpgM&M has many systems running strong that were built in the late 1980’s and early 1990’s.  From the early V1 (Version 1) platform the product line has continued to improve to increase safety, communication and energy savings.  The hardware and software compatibility built in to all control versions allow M&M to make upgrades simple cost effective.

Software Upgrades
Many new software features are available which could help conserve energy and make the plant operation and communication easier.  Many software upgrades have produced a rapid return on investment as a result of saving operator time and energy usage.

Obsolete Parts
The majority of hardware being used at facilities is still being produced and/or refurbished.  But as with any electronic components, some parts are starting to become scarce or made obsolete by the supplier.

Software Upgrades

It is important to M&M that we support our customers and help them modernize their systems in a timely and cost efficient manor.  On older equipment it is suggested to customers that they start upgrading the micro processors on their screw compressors first. This allows the hardware on those compressors to then be utilized as replacements and spares for master controllers reducing the cost and delaing a complete master change out. We have been upgrading several facilities such as this with new features with a focus on energy savings. The most common upgrades include:

  • General software upgrades (Sequencer, Condenser, Evaporator)
  • Energy management improvements (Load shed scheduling and priorities)
  • PC software and modem upgrades – (off site access)
  • PC Graphics upgrades and additions
  • Hardware upgrades
  • And Others

Additional changes for consideration include:

  • Monitoring of additional Ambient Conditions (Humidity)
  • Computations of Non Condensables in system
  • Condenser control based on wet bulb temperature
  • Changing some of the existing single speed condenser fans to VFDs
  • Evaporator Fan VFD Control

Some upgrades may require sensors or other equipment changes in the plant. Consultation with an engineer might be necessary to identify the possibilities and examine the benefits. Since many of these upgrades are focused on energy savings, often there may be rebates from the Power Company to offset some if not all of the capital investment.

Obsolete Parts

Currently the only part that we are unable to replace is the physical glass LCD display and the keypad assembly of V1 control systems. All suppliers do not coffer of the original LCD (initially 5) and manufactures have stopped making the display.  A suitable replacement is not offered and a upgrade may be necessary.
